NOTES
WEST PORTICO
- Samples for the custom Miracote color for the column shafts
and the foundation steps were reviewed for color match and the darkest
sample 99-110C was approved. Bob Mastriana immediately called Joseph DiMario,
product manager at Miracote and John Thiry of Keystone to expedite the
order.
- Keystone did the final cleaning on the upper balustrade and
except for a few stones that needed to be re-cleaned again, were given the
approval to proceed with the sealing.
- The plasterers finished their interior portico ceiling and
moldings but when they washed down their work the water agitated the iron
oxide in the stone below their moldings and necessitates re-cleaning this
area prior to sealing. Because of this we are going to seal the stone on the
interior of the north portico prior to finishing the plaster.
- Because it rained Monday, Keystone wasn't able to seal the
upper balustrade so the dismantling of the scaffold is being delayed a few
days.
NORTH PORTICO
- Keystone was given approval to start to seal the stonework
on the entire upper and interior portico. Only seven or eight stones need
touched cleaned prior to sealing. Sealing will be done by Friday.
- The exterior part of the scaffold is to be dismantled on
Monday as planned.
- The interior plaster work is not finished so the interior
scaffolding can't be removed winch delays the demolition and construction of
the new portico flooring. Easley & Rivers need two to three more weeks
to complete their work winch creates a critical scheduling problem.
Discussion with Wallace Builders on how to deal with this was not finalized
but Easley & Rivers may be back charged for any additional costs
incurred such as the scaffolding rental, weather protection, temporary beat,
etc.

NOTES
WEST PORTICO
- The scaffolding is being dismantled on Friday, September
17th. Wallace Builders are removing the ceramic tile to inspect tile
concrete slab and begin planning tile repair and replacement.
- Youngstown Tile will install the tile as soon as Wallace
has tile concrete floor slab ready.
- Miracote is to be installed on the columns as soon as it's
shipped so not to interfere with and splatter the tile installation.
NORTH PORTICO
- Five plasterers and one laborer expedited the work so they
will be finished on Wednesday or Thursday of next week instead of in
two or three weeks as previously thought.
- The exterior rental of the scaffolding stops on Monday. One
week of interior scaffolding is going to be back charged to Easley and
Rivers.
- Keystone will be done on the exterior sealing on Monday
except for the columns and foundation.
- On Monday the temporary shoring in the basement is to be
erected prior to demolition of the concrete slab.
- On Tuesday the electrical conduit is to be run for the
lampposts.
- Federal Iron has all the steel fabricated and ready to
install once the slab is demolished.

NOTES
WEST PORTICO
- A special meeting with Wallace Builders, Lou DeJulia and
Bob Mastriana was held on Monday instead of Tuesday in order to expedite a
decision regarding the condition of the concrete slab. Denny Salmon started
demolition of the tile and slab and opened up an access hole to determine the
extent and condition of the slab deterioration. The portico slab was not
built on grade as shown in the drawings but as a suspended reinforced
concrete slab similar to the North portico. The underside condition of the
slab revealed extensive structural deterioration and after much discussion
it was decided to demolish the entire exiting slab and replace it with a new
structural reinforced concrete slab with steel beams and metal deck
identical to the North portico. Wallace Builders will present a change order
to the commissioners on Thursday for formal approval.
- A brief meeting with the commissioners was held by 4M
Company to alert them to this condition and the hazardous situation and to
ask them for oral authorization to proceed. Rick Boggs also personally
inspected the underside of the portico and concurred with our recommendation.
Authorization to proceed was granted to Wallace Builders and the fabrication
of the steel and the demolition of the slab will begin Tuesday. Hopefully, this
additional work should not prolong the completion of the project.
- The entire scaffold on the West portico has been dismantled
as of Friday.
