The Mercer County Commission for Women held its annual Distinguished Woman of Mercer County Awards ceremony on May 22, 2008 , in the rotunda of the Mercer County Courthouse.  Honored were Donna Rambeck and Jennifer Barborak of Sharon, and Victory Sartori of Stoneboro. 

 

Mrs. Rambeck was honored in the category of community service.  She has been an active volunteer with Meals-On-Wheels since its inception in 1970.  During her 38-year tenure with Meals-On-Wheels, she has recruited over 60 volunteers and delivered nourishment for both mind and body to 29,000 of our County’s sick, elderly, and shut-in.  She uses her own automobile and gasoline to reach 20 people on the average day.  Being the consummate volunteer, Donna also has given of her time and talent to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Prince of Peace, Sharon Regional Hospital , American Cancer Society, Veteran’s Hospital, American Red Cross, and Christ Lutheran Church .

 

            Ruth Brutt nominated Mrs. Rambeck.

 

Mrs. Barborak was honored in the category of community leadership. She is the founder and president of the Shenango River Watchers.  As the organization’s leader, Jennifer has removed thousands of pounds of litter from the river, organized work day events to beautify its shores, collaborated with other organizations throughout Mercer County to heighten involvement and awareness, obtained state grants to fund her cause, challenged regulatory agencies to improve compliance with environmental standards, and developed a plan safeguard the river’s ecosystem for years to come.

 

            Patty Rossi nominated Mrs. Barborak.

   

 

Ms. Sartori was honored in the category of medicine.  She developed and directs Home Health Services at Grove City Medical Center , making it possible for residents to remain independent in their homes.  She has been awarded nursing certifications and agency accreditations to meet the healthcare needs of her clients, and serves as a mentor for her staff, educator to nursing students, and caregiver of her friends and neighbors.  Vicki volunteers for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Oak Grove Methodist Church .

 

            Judy and Charlie Clark nominated Mrs. Sartori.
