How do I get an Absentee or Mail-In Ballot?

In Pennsylvania, you can vote before Election Day with an absentee or mail-in ballot.

Requesting a Mail-in or Absentee Ballot

In order to vote with an Absentee or Mail-in ballot, you must complete an Absentee Ballot Application or a Mail in Ballot Application by the Tuesday before the election (e.g., Tuesday November 1 is the last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot for the November 8, 2022 General Election).

You can request a mail-in or absentee ballot online (embed this link) https://www.vote.pa.gov/Voting-in-PA/Pages/Mail-and-Absentee-Ballot.aspx, you can fill out then download the form here (embed this link) https://www.vote.pa.gov/Register-to-Vote/Documents/PADOS_MailInApplication.pdf or you can call the Elections Office at 724-662-7542 and we will mail you a form. Forms are also available at most public libraries, post offices, and municipal offices, and senior centers.

Mail-in and Absentee ballots are typically mailed to voters 21 days before the election.

Tracking the Status of your Ballot

Mercer County works with BallotTrax to provide you with up to date information where your ballot is in the mailing process.  BallotTrax will inform you when your ballot was printed, when it is in the mail system, and when we have received your voted ballot back in our office.  You can sign up for ballot tracking by going here. Voting Over the Counter Before Election Day

A voter can come to our office, request a mail-in ballot over the counter, and then vote a mail-in ballot. Mercer County typically conducts over the counter voting between 21 days and 7 days before the election at our office: 130 North Pitt Street, Suite B, Mercer, 16137 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

If a person requested a ballot before the 7 day cutoff, they can vote over the counter through the Friday before the election.

Assistance from a Third Party

If you have a disability that prevents you from applying in person for your mail ballot, picking up a mail in ballot from our office, or delivering your mail ballot, you may designate an agent to deliver your ballot materials for you. You must designate the agent in writing using this form. (embed this link) Request for Accessible Remote Ballot For November 3, 2020 Pennsylvania General Election (pa.gov)

Dropping Off a Voted Ballot

Voted mail-in or absentee ballots can be dropped off at our office: 130 North Pitt Street, Suite B, Mercer, 16137 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Under Pennsylvania law, a person can only drop off their own ballot. You cannot drop off a ballot for anyone else, including your spouse, child, partner, parent, or neighbor.
